“We bring readers a carefully selected line of books that celebrate fascinating people and remarkable life journeys,” says publisher Youngs. “It’s a new day in publishing, and working with SCB allows us to branch out and better meet our goals, one of which is to expand our outreach in bringing our titles to television, film, other media, and social network outlets.”
BYB Publishers’s backlist titles include The Maybelline Story and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It (Oct. 2010), the 100-year-old story they’ll bring to television. On Toby’s Terms, about media darling and CHIMO Reese Award Winner, Toby—the Chesapeake Bay retriever—is expected in theaters later this year. Also on tap for fall is the launch of Kendahl House Press, a children’s imprint, leading with their Toby for Kids series. A children’s TV series is also in the works.
SCB works with the top successful commission sales groups in North America, and have 28 salespeople covering every region of the continent. Says Silverman, “Our list is presented to all major and regional bookstore chains, retail wholesalers, libraries and school libraries, college stores, and independent bookstores, as well as the major online retailers. Our sales and marketing staff works closely with publishers on effective book promotions and advertising, as well as on cover designs, publication dates, print runs, wholesaling, and more. We have experienced staff for special market sales, placing titles in non-book markets and outlets, as well as for foreign rights sales. We take booths at the world’s major sales shows and rights markets and are represented at all regional book fairs in North America.”
SCB’s home base of Los Angeles is the #1 book market in America. “Southern California book sales are consistently ahead of those in NYC and San Francisco,” says Silverman, “We have important professional and personal connections in this dynamic region, and our warehouses and offices are near downtown LA, and minutes from LAX, the largest port of entry for books printed throughout the world.”
“We’re excited to a part of the SCB family,” says Youngs. “SCB has a strong entrepreneurial spirit which really suits us, and with our business ties to New York and Los Angeles, the convenience is there, too.”
