May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Acclaimed celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart  has joined the campaign to end extreme poverty, by inviting fellow photographers around the country to a "visual conversation" about the experience of extreme poverty for the 1.4 billion people living on less than $1.50 a day.

The central question he asks is:  What does "living below the line" mean?

He challenges photographers with a premise: If you were suddenly faced with living on $1.50 A Day - the reality 1.4 billion people face everyday - what would this feel like?

Photographers have until May 22 to make a photo submission to the online gallery at  http:// dollarfiftyaday.com.

10 winners will feature in a Jeremy Cowart curated exhibition in New York  and a chance to be profiled on Ovation TV.

The competition is part of a worldwide campaign initiated by the Global Poverty Project,  launched by Hugh Jackman on April 18 called Live Below the Line  http://lvebelowtheline.com. This campaign challenges US citizens to live on a food budget of $1.50 A Day for 5 days from May 16- 20, to actually experience life on the extreme poverty line.

Jeremy is passionate about the way art can make a difference to social issues. After the devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January of 2010, Jeremy responded with his "Voices of Haiti" photo essay, letting the people of Haiti express their own prayers and hopes through photography. This project was displayed prominently at the entrance of a gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in March of 2010, which led to a pledge of over ten billion dollars toward the effort.

As part of the Live Below the Line campaign, Jeremy hopes that people will find a similar way to express themselves and to help organisations such as the Global Poverty Project http://globalpovertyproject.com and its charity partner CARE http://www.care.org raise awareness and much needed funds to fight extreme poverty at a global level.
