The Houston Humane Society has purchased 4.5 acres immediately adjacent to the existing campus and on the east side of Almeda Road. The new land will be developed to house the 57,000 square foot medical center, which will include on-site dormitories to accommodate veterinary medical students completing required training rotations.
When construction on the new hospital is completed, the existing 9-acre property will be redesigned with a focus toward the fostering and adoption of animals. Expanded green space will include a park where staff and visitors can enjoy spending time with the animals. An on-site multi-use space will be used for educational events, training programs, such as Diamonds in the Ruff, and conferences to inform the public on matters associated with animal welfare.
