May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Work by Bourne-based construction company FE Peacock Ltd (www.fepeacock.co.uk), part of the Larkfleet Group (www.larkfleetgroup.co.uk), has been shortlisted in the ‘retrofit project of the year’ category of the Construction News Awards 2011.

The Construction News Awards are organised by the trade publication Construction News and reward building projects that challenge convention and push boundaries.

The ‘retrofit project of the year’ category required entrants to show detailed evidence of improved energy efficiency of an existing building and how this was achieved.

Larkfleet Group’s entry detailed FE Peacock’s retrofit work on a 1980s-built two-bedroom bungalow in Bourne, Lincolnshire.

FE Peacock retrofitted the bungalow with energy-saving technologies and, as part of the project, insulated the roof to 400mm, installed a solar smart system high efficiency boiler, 1kW (kilowatt peak) solar photovoltaic panels and a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery unit (MVHR) with insulated ducting.

FE Peacock also focused on allowing the owners and occupants to benefit from Feed in Tariff (FIT) income, utilising renewable energy generation to reduce energy bills.

With the retrofitted energy-saving technologies in place, this particular bungalow will benefit from a 50 to 70 per cent saving in energy bills.

FE Peacock designed the retrofit installations and managed the construction on site. The entire project was completed in only fifteen days and the bungalow is now more energy efficient and has reduced its CO2 emissions.

Karl Hick, managing director of Larkfleet Group, commented: “Being shortlisted for this award is fantastic news and the construction team that worked on the bungalow should be applauded for the high quality of retrofit work carried out.

“An important challenge in reducing carbon emissions comes from the UK’s existing building stock. To reduce carbon emissions from existing stock requires the retrofitting of energy efficiency measures and renewable technologies.”

Larkfleet Group is among seven companies on the shortlist for ‘retrofit project of the year’ and as part of the judging process has also delivered a presentation to the judges in London.

The awards ceremony will take place on 12 July at the Grosvenor Hotel in London when the company will discover whether or not it has won the award.
FE Peacock is experienced in providing renewable energy solutions for residential dwellings and for agricultural and public sector buildings. It can install PV panels on new buildings and also ‘retrofit’ them to existing buildings.

Together with Larkfleet Group company Lark Energy and specialised builders’ merchant Eco Building Products, FE Peacock is able to supply and install top quality PV components as well as provide a full consultancy and design service.
