May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- When everything around you is collapsing … what do you do?

With a marriage in crisis and suffering career burn out, one woman did what any self respecting marketing executive would do—threw it all in and ran away.

In a battle to reignite her passion for life, regain her self-esteem and find herself again, author, Helen Goltz, tried her hand at a number of life changing jobs.

At 39 she became a police cadet, at 40 she packed the car, and with her beloved Boxer dog, ‘ran away’ to become an editor of a paper in a seaside community. At 41, she came to her senses, came home, settled down and began again.

“The subject matter of this book will resonate with many readers,” according to Brisbane-based author, Helen Goltz. “I was burnt out with my career, I was questioning the meaning of life and with my marriage disintegrating, I was feeling disillusioned with everything,” she said.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of a marriage break up and starting over. To leave a marriage is a terrible thing and it takes a great deal of strength and courage; to stay takes equally as much fortitude. Do you stay or go?”

Ms Goltz said that was the dilemma she faced and readers seeking change, questioning how they got where they are, or feeling trapped by expectations will relate to that journey.

“From High Heels to Handcuffs validates that it is okay to feel that way. It reinforces that anyone at any age can take a leap and try something new—even if it is physically, mentally or financially challenging!” she said.

Ms Goltz said applying for the Police Service was a way of challenging herself. “Tackling the obstacle course, studying how to talk a suicidal person off a window ledge, navigating the Police Academy driver training course and visiting the morgue were a long way from launching marketing campaigns and attending events,” Ms Goltz said.

Ms Goltz said the true story, From High Heels to Handcuffs is for anybody who has ever lost their footing in this world and wondered, ‘can I start again?’

About the Author: H.M. Goltz has worked as a journalist, marketer and producer in Australia for more than twenty years before training as a police cadet. Postgraduate degree qualified with majors in Literature, Media and Communications, Helen has also lectured in Marketing at Australian colleges. She currently works as a marketing consultant.
