Independent Living Partnership Appoints Two New Board Members

Lynn Daucher and Alain Jourdier Bring Added Expertise to Growing Organization
May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Riverside, CA – May 2, 2011 – Independent Living Partnership, a leading national advocate of self-reliance to maintain life-style independence for seniors and people with disabilities through the pioneering promotion of low-cost, efficient and effective volunteer transportation today announced the appointment of Lynn Daucher and Alain Jourdier to its Board of Directors.

"The expansion of the Board of Directors ensures the nonprofit will continue to advance programs and activities to benefit aging and disabled members of our communities who now need more assistance and support than ever as social services and entitlements continue to shrink,” said Richard Smith, executive director, Independent Living Partnership.  
“The new and bigger challenges facing us all as we age, and the organization’s capability to help people address those challenges in positive ways, will be achieved through the addition of experienced, skillful and passionate new board leadership," he added.

Daucher, 64, is retired and served as the Director of the California Department on Aging from 2007 to 2010. California Department on Aging administers programs serving older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the state.  Prior to her appointment to California Department on Aging, Daucher served as the Assemblywoman from the 72nd District from Orange County until 2006, when she was term limited; she has served on numerous committees and positions related to her expertise in education and aging issues.    Throughout her career, she has volunteered numerous hours at local schools to educate students about important issues affecting their communities and California.

Jourdier, 65, is a business strategist & communicator.  He brings over thirty years of marketing experience, primarily in healthcare, to the leadership team of ILP.  For many years Jourdier was an independent marketing consultant with his last corporate position as the Regional Vice President, Marketing & Communications for the St. Joseph Health System, Orange, CA.  Jourdier served in Vietnam as an Air Force air evacuation medic as well as in the U.S. Peace Corps in Kenya.  He taught marketing and strategic planning for nine years at UCLA and has been teaching marketing in the International Programs at the University of California Riverside for the past 5 years.

Founded in 1991 to advocate for passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Independent Living Partnership works to ensure the independence and dignity of the elderly and persons with disabilities, their families and caregivers through education and access to empowering services and resources.

ILP’s most notable program is the nationally recognized Trip volunteer driver service, which has operated in Riverside County California since 1993, providing 1.2 million escorted one-way trips for 5,000 seniors and people with disabilities who otherwise would have been homebound.  ILP is now assisting communities across the United States begin and operate similar services to address one of the most commonly cited problems everywhere – the need for transportation for our aging population.
