Wall Street Journal reporter, Kara Swisher, to headline San Diego Venture Group May 26 event

PRLog (Press Release) - May 2, 2011 - SAN DIEGO – Renowned Wall Street Journal reporter and co-producer of its “All Things Digital Conferences” will headline the San Diego Venture Group’s May 26 “Social Media – Is there still a play?” event.

The breakfast program at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla will discuss if the industry is beyond the early start-up phase and will begin consolidating through M&A or IPO activity.

“There’s been a great deal of talk and hope about the future of social media, and for good reason,” said Dave Titus, President of the San Diego Venture Group. “Nary has a day gone by without speculation about some company like Facebook’s supposed pre-IPO valuation. Social media affects all types of businesses – from the biotech seeking clinical trial patients to the latest web start-ups.”

Kara Swisher started covering digital issues for The Wall Street Journal’s San Francisco bureau in 1997. Her “BoomTown” column originally appeared on the front page of the newspaper’s Marketplace section as well as WSJ.com. Her “All Things Digital Conferences” are highly sought after events by both attendees and the high-powered industry leaders she interviews at them. Previously, Swisher covered breaking news about the Web’s major players as well as Internet policy issues and also wrote feature articles on technology for the paper. She has also written a weekly column for the Personal Journal on home gadget issues called Home Economics. Swisher is a graduate of Georgetown University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
