May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- ThreeSistersMarketplace.com Cultivates High Quality Art Exchange Supporting Artisans In Unique Online Community

Three Sisters’ Marketplace was founded in Philadelphia, PA by businesswoman and artist Wendy Wolf.  After years as a successful executive in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry, Wolf decided to combine her business experience and her passion for art to build a web-based business http://www.ThreeSistersMarketplace.com.

Wolf’s inspiration came from the people closest to her - artisans in her family, her friends and neighbors who created beautiful pottery, hand-knit sweaters, and fine jewelry as well as unique sculptures and paintings. Artisans found it was a challenge to justify the expenses of maintaining art galleries and art stores or carting delicate items to and from art exhibits and craft shows. Wolf thought it would be easier to create a platform online to showcase items and create an art community exchange.  The whole basis of the site is the balance of the ‘three’ as in the Native American ‘three sisters’ legend of corn, beans, and squash planted as inseparable sisters who grow and thrive together.  It is a sophisticated, sustainable system that provides long-term soil fertility and a healthy diet to generations.  The three plants flourish because of their symbiotic relationship of working together.  “On Three Sisters' Marketplace the artisans, shoppers and our online community all benefit from the relationship – the artisan makes a sale, the buyer gets a quality handmade product, and Three Sisters' Marketplace also benefits by bringing them together and growing for the future” says Wolf.

Art has always been a cornerstone in Wendy Wolf’s life.  Growing up in New Jersey, Wolf was always involved in various art classes at the neighborhood community center and formal Art Schools where she explored every medium. At Temple University, in Philadelphia, Wolf continued to explore art while also learning more about another one of her passions – the sciences.  She ultimately earned a degree in Journalism and Advertising - “balancing the strengths of both the left and right sides of her brain”, as she puts it. Entering the working world in sales, Wolf’s creative side allowed her to stand out from the crowd and succeed in tough industries. Wolf started in copier sales, but spent the majority of her career in pharmaceuticals.  Throughout her successful 16-year career in Bio-Pharma and Pharma as a Sales and Marketing leader Wolf’s entrepreneurial spirit was always driving her to do more – and then finally the stars aligned.

It was an interesting series of three events in 2009 that led Wolf to the idea that started Three Sisters' Marketplace – a family vacation to Monument Valley, a 4th grade field trip to an organic farm and a dinner party with family and then there it was - Three Sisters' Marketplace! You can read the details of the genesis on her blog here: http://threesistersmarketplace.com/about/blog

The “three sisters” are actually corn, beans, and squash – and the fact that Wolf’s husband has three sisters played into the idea as well.  The corn stalk serves as a pole for the beans; the beans climb the stalk and help support it against the wind and also provide nitrogen to fertilize the soil; the broad leaves of the squash protect the sisters from weeds and keep moisture in the soil by shading it. The plants and the sisters all bring something unique and creative into the balance of ‘three’.  The three plants flourish because they work and grow together – just as artisans, shoppers and our online community do on Three Sisters' Marketplace (www.threesistersmarketplace.com) .

Three Sisters Marketplace is a family business. Wolf is a wife, mom, artist, sales person, marketer and leader who is now using the skills she’s honed to launch a dream. The purpose is to bring the ‘Main Street shopping experience online.”  Three Sisters’ Marketplace is a people connector that satisfies the needs of everyone in the mix and that also allows everyone to have fun in the process.
