Pennsylvania Geologist and Soils Scientist Recieves the Conservationist of the Year Award

Brian Oram a professional geologist and soil scientist at Wilkes University and B.F. Environmental Consultants Inc receives the Stanley M. Sowa, Jr. Conservationist of the Year Award from a local regional conservation organization.
 
May 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Brian Oram a professional geologist and soil scientist was recognized by the Luzerne County Conservation District as the 2010 Conservationist of the Year and recipient of the Staney M. Sowa, Jr Conservationist Award.  Mr. Oram is a licensed professional geologist, soil scientist, and water quality expert located in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  

He is the manager for the Center for Environmental Quality at Wilkes University and he is the owner and principle of B.F. Environmental Consultants Inc.   Mr. Oram is active with multiple non-profit environmental education and awareness organizations and he is currently a board member for the Pocono Northeast RC&D Council, Back Mountain Recreation, and Exploring Audubon's Lehigh- An Eco Tour in NEPA and has been active in hosting two regional Alternative Energy Expos and forming a local Green Building Council.

Mr. Oram primary area of research and training is related to educating and assisting private wellowners on water quality issues and working with watershed organizations and he is active in the C-SAW Program (Free Assistance to Watershed Organizations/ Citizen Scientist) and lake/watershed management, which is managed by the Pocono Northeast RC&D Council.

The Luzerne Conservation District took the opportunity to recognize the outstanding conservation efforts of local community members by presenting the 2011 Annual Awards at the banquet.We held our Sixth Annual District Banquet at the Genetti Hotel & Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre. The proceeds from the banquet benefit the District’s conservation education and outreach efforts by helping to support our ongoing programming to local homeowners, municipalities, educators, students, and the public through workshops, newsletters, special events, and community programs.  With more than 170 people in attendance, the banquet featured a silent and live auction, games of chance and raffles.  Many local businesses and artists donated merchandise and original works of art for the event.

The other individuals that were recognized at this event included:  Mr. Lewis Rinehimer (Conservation Farmer Award),  Mr. Joe Calabrese (Erosion and Sediment Professional of the Year), Mr. Robert Bonczewski (Conservation Educator Award), Mr. Chris Denmon (Watershed Stewardship Award),  and MMI Preparatory School (2010 Envirothon Award).
