By: Project Independence, Debra Marsteller “We are thrilled with the community support we are receiving this year for our Walk for Independence and Health Fair” said Board Chair Dan Pittman. “Our support for people with disabilities is a community affair, all of us working together. We’re looking forward to a large turnout on May 1st” John has lost 30 pounds since January. He’s done a lot of tittering back and forth but averaging 7 pounds a month is terrific by any standard. John’s story makes it more remarkable. He weighed in at over 400 pounds and has developmental disabilities. How does he do it? The old fashioned way. He walks the track, increasing mileage slowly but surely and eating more vegetables. He’ll be at the Walk on Sunday. His team has over 18 participants. The Project Independence Walk for Independence and Health Fair will be held at Central Park in Huntington Beach from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 1st. Walkers can register at http://www.projectindependencewalk.org, or at Project Independence’ Project Independence Formed in 1977, Project Independence promotes civil rights for people with developmental dis¬abilities through services which expand independence and choice.
