In a phone interview with a press agent from New York this morning, Daric Richie issued a public apology to the gay community for the Terrel Williams suicide hoax of October 2010.
Said Richie, "I want to put all the games of a troubled attention-seeking teen behind me, and begin to be useful and make real contributions to the LGBTQ community. Let us just say I was troubled, that I have learned my lesson, and have turned the page. I apologize and am very truly sorry, and never meant to hurt anyone."
The Terrel Williams gay teen suicide story was picked up nationally by Perez Hilton and prominent gay media venues - among them, the illustrious Queerty and Hivster.com - last fall at the height of the national gay teen suicide scandal, after it was reported that the 17 year old youth had hung himself after being gay bullied at his school in Lakewood, WA.
Daric, going under his former pseudonym of "Daric Rawr", posed as the lover of the fictitious Williams, and even opened an In Memoriam page for him on Twitter.
Richie's hoax was uncovered by Hivster.com, when reporters running the Terrel Williams story on that site were engaged in media fact-checking. It was found that there were no medical examiner or police reports of any youth by that name in Washington state or in the district of Los Angeles, and that no Terrel Williams, age 17 could be identified with such a story or located in the national data base.
Their original story can be read here:
Richie claims on his Wikia site that he had attempted to apologize to HIVster.com , and had informed them that he had major conflicts with his father, and was for a period " a troubled teen". " I am more than willing to apologize, and am in fact deeply sorry and want to behave differently beginning now." said Richie.
Regarding questions surrounding his posing as a minor, Richie has produced his Washington State ID, which gives his birth name of "Derick Jacob Goff", and lists the date he will turn 18 as January 2013. (Pictured above left)
Removing himself from involvement with Amanda Knox debates:
Richie also said he is removing himself from the Amanda Knox appeals trial debate. He informed a press agent, "I am removing myself from the whole Knox thing, and have no animosity toward Doug Bremner nor Bruce Fisher - nor toward anyone in any way connected with Knox, pro or con. I am sorry for anyone I have offended, and just want to become the best self I can be now, and act with a cooler head and warmer heart. I am reaching out to the press because I want to be clear that I am beginning anew with all, and am resolved to prevail in a better way."
Richie says he plans on focusing on his studies, and is immersing himself in pop culture, which is the crux of his Pop Injection site. He also wants to make some kind of difference in the LGBTQ community. He identifies as gay.
