April 28, 2011 - PRLog -- The 78th Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo will have the Guinness Book of World Records on site as they plan to set a world record for the largest fishing tournament on Earth. The dates have been set for July 15-17, 2011.  The weigh station will be open from 10:00am – 7:00pm Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00am – 5:00pm Sunday. Last year the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo was canceled due to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Traditionally, the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo attracts over 3,100 anglers competing in 30 categories for an estimated $400,000 in cash and prizes. For years, the ADSFR has proclaimed themselves as the largest and oldest saltwater fishing tournament in the world, but this year Rodeo officials are expecting an increased turnout as each participant has a chance to be a part of history as they attempt to make the record official. Fishing begins at 5:00am Friday, July 15th with the ceremonial cannon blast at the ADSFR site, and concludes at 5:00pm Sunday, July 17th with a ceremonial cannon blast.

The 53rd Annual Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament, sponsored by Exxon-Mobil, will be held Saturday, July 9th.  The weigh station at the ADSFR site on Dauphin Island, AL will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  This event is open to all anglers 15 years old and younger. The awards ceremony for the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament will be held immediately following the tournament at the ADSFR site.

The Awards Ceremony for the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo will be held on Monday, July 18th at the Aircraft Pavilion at Battleship Memorial Park starting at 6:00pm.
