April 27, 2011 - PRLog -- The Future of the Android Market:

Much has been touted about Android’s present success in the smartphone platform market. Its success has been attributed to its widespread use across dozens of smartphone manufacturers as opposed to Apple and Blackberry which use their own platforms solely within their own companies. In addition, Android has been described as extremely user-friendly with thousands of applications for download upon Android-based cellular phones.

But what is to become of the platform giant?

Industry experts seem pretty confident that the success of the Android platform is set to steadily increase and its market share will only expand. Luckily for Android users, there is no end in sight to its seemingly overnight takeover of the smartphone market.

Demographics play a large part in the market share among smartphone platforms. Android is currently leading the pack in the American market with Apple following closely behind. However, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard have discovered a market niche in targeting the older demographic of smartphone users. Android is leading in the market occupied by 18-34 year olds, the demographic thought to largely direct and decide the face of the smartphone market. However, Android falls behind amongst the 55 and over demographic, which is currently lead by WebOS and iOS.

Advances in Android-based devices are on the horizon as rumors of the first Android-based tablet are circulating the technology community. Founder of technology website Engadget.com, Peter Rojas, has stated that the Android tablet device is technology’s “worst kept secret” and “Amazon is working on an Android tablet….I am 99 percent certain they are having Samsung build one for them.” What will this mean for the tablet market? The Amazon/Android tablet is not meant to compete with the iPad, but is designed to enhance Amazon’s digital marketplace design with user-friendly applications which will simplify online shopping, buying and trading. Rojas believes the new Samsung tablet, which should not exceed $250, will be available sometime in the summer of 2011.

Even the United States military has caught on to the growing popularity of the Android as it is positioned to utilize Android-based devices in the battlefield. A new device known as the Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) is being tested for use by American soldiers. The JBC-P will provide GPS services, blue force tracking, tactical ground reporting and critical messaging. If device testing goes well, troops will be given the devices as early as mid-Summer 2011.

The future of the Android platform is promises nothing but expansion, development and market growth. With the Android smartphones ruling the younger demographic, manufacturers have certainly found a niche they can rely on. The new Amazon/Android tablet device promises to deliver unparalleled technology amongst an over-saturated tablet market. Plus, with endorsement by the United States military, the Android platform is performing better than ever in adverse climates and environments. In all, the Android promises great things in the future and users are surely thrilled to see what will be unveiled next.
