The competition is organized by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), and features a competition format that tests the baristas’ technical skill as well as knowledge and passion for coffee, in a viewer friendly way. The United States Barista Championship was developed by the SCAA to help increase Barista skill and knowledge across the country. Many events are planned around the main competition to further increase awareness of coffee, and its inter-relationship with the culinary industry, such as the newly showcased Brewers Cup Competition.
Scott Conary, President of Carrboro Coffee Roasters will also be present at the 4-day competition in Houston. Mr. Conary will be there to lead the judges training and support the event as the SCAA Chair of the USBC Committee. Mr. Conary is responsible for overseeing all 6 regions of the USA competitions as well as this National Competiton, and will spend the 2 days before the competition calibrating the judges.. Added to his experienced resume are his responsibilities as a member of the World Barista Championship (WBC) Certification Committee, which is responsible for judges training for National Competitons around the world, and at the WBC, which will be held this year in Bogota, Colombia, in June.

The U.S. Barista Championships fosters the development of the Barista and the coffee industry through a competition format with the goal of increasing education and skill level for all. This event will select a National Champion to represent the U.S. in the World Competition¸
