April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Ellettsville, Indiana (April 26, 2011) The Ellettsville/Richland Township Community Council met in regular session on April 20, 2011.  The Council heard a staff report outlining the funding dilemma facing the Town of Ellettsville this spring.  The financial report shows that there will be little or no funding remaining in some of the Town’s financial accounts by the end of June 2011. The Community Council, during the April 20th meeting, authorized the release of the Town’s budget projections and instructed staff to post the information on its website.

Darby McCarty, Chairperson of the Community Council stated following the Community Council meeting, “It was very informative and sobering to hear the report from our staff, county and town officials outlining the current funding shortfalls facing our local governmental units. It appears that from the information provided the current property tax caps will result in the Town facing a reduction of $76,000 in revenue this year on top of the current tight cash flow issue.”   Tom Orman, Vice Chairperson of the Community Council commented, “The Community Council needs to work closely with all governmental units in the near future concerning these funding shortfall issues.  The recent “sticker shock” area residents experienced with their property tax notices is a prime example why the  public should stay involved in local issues.”

The Town of Ellettsville budget projections can be found on Community Council’s website at http://ellettsvillerichlandtownshipcommunitycouncil.com
