Weston Software Inc today announced two new products: PowerOne for Local Accounts and Groups, and PowerOne for Directory Authentication. Both support today’s hybrid enterprise: The heterogeneous, distributed collection of platforms and devices – real, virtual, and cloud – that power today’s organizations.
PowerOne for Local Accounts and Groups lets the Windows administrator manage users, groups, and devices running Macintosh, Linux, and UNIX from the Microsoft Management Console – agentlessly. This frees up the specialists skilled in Mac, Linux and UNIX by allowing the Windows administrators to add new users, reset passwords, change group policies, and remove users without requiring detailed knowledge of each platform’s commands.
PowerOne for Directory Authentication links users, groups, and devices to Active Directory for authentication. The administrator can grant users single sign-on across all managed platforms, when desired; and when required, administrators can configure additional authentication through native Active Directory just as they can on Windows. The credentials are stored in the Windows Vault (called Credential Manager in prior Windows releases).
Uniquely in the marketplace, PowerOne for Directory Authentication and PowerOne for Local Accounts and Groups do not require any agent on the managed platforms. This means these products can manage real, virtual, or cloud-based devices and platforms. PowerOne products deploy at network speed. In laboratory environments, PowerOne’s bulk load facility binds users and groups to Active Directory at a sustained rate of five per second, or 18,000 per hour.  In contrast, agent-based solutions typically consume two to four hours per agent.  Overall throughput is governed by the processing power and network bandwidth available to Active Directory. PowerOne offers secure delegation, comprehensive logging, along with full reporting and auditing across all managed platforms. Both products comply with vendor best practices for security, logging, and command structure.
“This is a game-changer for managing distributed environments,” according to Hank Voight, founder and CEO of Weston Software Inc. “The legacy Active Directory bridge products take forever to fully install, and typically break with each new patch or upgrade. They don’t provide comprehensive logging, and they require specialized skills to operate. With PowerOne, we say ‘Good-bye’ to all that nonsense.”
The product is available now. Pricing depends on the number of endpoints. For more information contact info@westonsoftwareinc.com or visit us at http://www.westonsoftwareinc.com .
