The new Skyactiv drive train is a group of technologies that bring together diesel and very high-output internal combustion gasoline engines, as well as entirely redesigned manual and automatic gearboxes, and an advanced chassis and body. All of these components help improve every aspect of the driving experience, including performance, handling, fuel consumption, and vehicle safety.
The new 2012 Mazda3 will also feature a slightly new interior refresh with new trim materials and colors coming available and small revisions to the multi-information display's user interface. The Skyactiv-G engine is a 2.0 liter with gasoline direct injection with multi-hole injectors, specially developed piston cavity shapes, and a high compression ratio to deliver 155 horsepower and 148 pounds of torque. The engine is also lighter than previous generations. The 6 speed transmission called Skyactiv-Drive uses torque converter lockup for less drivetrain torque loss and higher efficiency. Together the new engine and transmission allow the Mazda3 to get upwards of 40 mpg highway.
