Beauty Fixes for High-Protein Diets

After a few weeks on your new high-protein diet, you will really start to feel great about the way you look and feel.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 22, 2011 - After a few weeks on your new high-protein diet, you will really start to feel great about the way you look and feel. Your clothes fit better, pants feel looser---all that good stuff! But you may be wondering if there are any beauty side effects from switching to a high-protein diet. We polled successful dieters and got their feedback. Here are some of the common concerns and beauty tip solutions.

The Skin Skinny:

Some low-carb, high-protein regimens “can impact the complexion,” says naturopathic physician Alan C. Logan. “Excessive protein can cause calcium levels to slightly drop.” Also, “the acidity of meat-based diets can modify the skin’s pH and increase its susceptibility to UV damage.”

Beauty Boost:

Take calcium supplements, and add some fruits and vegetables. Their alkalinity will balance the acidity of the meat while also providing free-radical-fighting antioxidants.

High-Protein Diet & Under-eye Puffiness:

Protein energy bars and protein drinks will help you breeze through your morning workout and energize you,  but a few dieters reported bags underneath their eyes. “Proteins carry fluids into the body, so if you eat a diet that’s high in protein, you may retain a certain amount of water which in turn could translate to under-eye puffiness.”

Beauty Boost:

The best way to deflate any swelling? Cucumber slices or cooling packs really do work.

Bad breath and constipation were the only other mentionables. Just being aware of breath issues and having mints on hand were savvy dieter’s solution. Less dietary fiber with excess protein could result in constipation. However, following Focus28’s suggestions of consuming 6-8 glasses of water daily and adding Fiber Plus Vanilla to shakes and drinks will combat any constipation.
