By: Jo Trizila Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. The National MS Society raises money through events across the country to fund research and provide support for those affected by MS. Bike MS has come to be known as the premier cycling series in the U.S. The Bike MS Sam’s Club Ride kicks-off on Saturday, April 30, when more than 3,500 cyclists will depart Frisco from the Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Cyclists will ride to Texas Motor Speedway where they will stay overnight. The following morning, the cyclists will take a victory lap for MS around Texas Motor Speedway, then head to the finish line at Sundance Square in historic downtown Fort Worth to complete the 153-mile journey. To show support for the Riders Against MS team, Massage Envy is providing purple cycling jerseys and on-site licensed massage therapists will be available at Texas Motor Speedway between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday to help riders sooth aching muscles. Each team rider will receive a certificate to redeem for a free 30-minute massage session. The massage therapists will be available for a time after 3:30 for riders who want additional massage time at $1 per minute. Massage Envy employees will also be present at the event to help cheer on the team who are easily recognizable in their purple cycling jerseys featuring the Massage Envy logo. “Our individual riders are dedicated to raising funds and awareness to help bring an end to this disorder once and for all,” says Rod Moffitt, team captain of Riders Against MS. “Massage Envy is also dedicated to helping out the cause by being a major sponsor of our cycling team. We could not do it without them.” The Dallas/Fort Worth Massage Envy centers not only provide beneficial services to individuals, but also support events to ensure the well-being of the community as a whole. “We are proud to support the Riders Against MS in this important event and to help raise awareness of and funding for MS in our community,” says Brendan McBratney, owner of Massage Envy centers in Frisco and one in McKinney. “By providing on-site therapeutic massage, we hope to enable all riders to not only complete the ride, but to feel great while doing it. Massage helps reduce fatigue and speeds up the recovery time of athletes.” At Massage Envy, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $49. Memberships are available for $59 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members can enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate.
