April 21, 2011 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri–St. Louis Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program announces the 2011 Fundraising Institute, which will be held June 6–10. This year’s program includes four new sessions to provide a comprehensive approach to successful fundraising. The Fundraising Institute has become a staple for local nonprofits looking to expand or revamp their fundraising techniques.

“This year’s Institute will be the most innovative yet,” said Dan Sise, community engagement manager and director of Continuing Education for the Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program at UMSL. “We continually assess nonprofit trends in St. Louis and adapt the Institute to provide the most up-to-date techniques to keep local organizations in the know and on top of the game.”

A new panel discussion with the leaders of four major grant-making organizations and a Fundraisers Networking Happy Hour will cap off the week, which includes three other new courses and three returning courses.

“We are bringing together the most crucial elements of fundraising with speakers who can present them in an innovative and attention-grabbing way,” Sise said. “The topics are essential to understanding what it means to be an effective fundraiser in the St. Louis area.”

“Planned Giving: A Primer” is a new full-day course focusing on the latest trends in planned giving and is presented by Steven Rosenblum of the St. Louis Zoo. New half-day sessions include “All Donations Start With Communications” with Joe Mueller from the Boy Scouts, and “Corporate Social Responsibility and Approaching Corporate Foundations” with Mary McMurtrey of the Gateway Center for Giving.

“Fundraising 101,” “Successful Grant Writing,” and “Finding the Right Grant for Your Organization” are returning day-long sessions and will discuss cutting-edge techniques and information presented by leading local fundraisers. Previously a half-day course, “Fundraising 101” was expanded to a full day by popular demand.

Also launching this year is a panel discussion, “Development Do’s and Don’ts From the Funders’ Perspective,” featuring the heads of the Incarnate Word Foundation, Lutheran Foundation, Regional Arts Commission and St. Louis–Jefferson Solid Waste Management District.

In addition to the new speakers, the Institute is bringing back popular instructors, including fundraising consultant Wendy Dyer, St. Patrick Center executive Jan Rasmussen, and Kay Tabscott of Kingdom House, all of whom are well-respected and well-known, in and beyond the St. Louis region, Sise noted.

“We have assembled an impressive group of instructors this year,” Sise said. “We are very fortunate to have so many talented nonprofit leaders joining us as speakers.”

Full day courses (lunch included) are $99, half-day courses are $49, and the panel discussion is $40. Participants may sign up for the entire week for $400, a savings of $84. In addition, participants are advised to register before May 23, 2011, to avoid a late registration fee. To register, or for more information including the full schedule of courses, visit the Institute's website at http://umslce.org/index.php/fundraising-institute or call (314) 516-5948.

The Fundraising Institute is presented by UMSL’s Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program. The program offers credit and noncredit classes on a variety of nonprofit topics, as well as graduate certificates in Nonprofit Management & Leadership. The NPML program at UMSL is the only nonprofit academic program in the St. Louis region that is recognized by Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, which develops standards for nonprofit education.
