The IABF occupies the Engine House in Manchester and preserves and promotes Anthony Burgess’s work. The foundation’s reading room offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in Anthony Burgess’s novels such as A Clockwork Orange and The Right to an Answer as well as his own original first editions of classic works by James Joyce and D.H. Lawrence.
The IABF approached J&C Joel for a solution to light and sound issues caused by the large windows in the Engine House’s performance space. J&C Joel manufactured blackout curtains to mask the performance space’s high level windows in black orion, a 96% blackout fabric. Due to the height of these windows the blackout curtains were mounted on Silent Gliss motorised curtain tracks that are operated using a remote control.
Black premier wool serge curtains lined with red sateen were hung from two-way walkalong tracks over the performance space’s entrances to mask the doorways and at the same time reduce sound reverberation within the room.
J&C Joel offer a choice of over 180 fabrics to suit any application, both decorative and practical. J&C Joel’s wool serge is durable enough for use as perimeter curtains in any busy venue, has excellent acoustic properties, is also aesthetically pleasing and is available in a wide range of colours.
J&C Joel’s blackout fabric, orion, is available in a range of 21 colours that are woven on both sides of the fabric. Orion is ideal for use in sports halls, conference centres, schools or anywhere a lightweight blackout fabric is required.
