April 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The Wedgwood Visitor Centre is a fascinating and revealing insight into a pottery renowned throughout the world. The Centre has taken significant amount of time and care to make their tour unlike any other in the UK. The company’s rich heritage is beautifully illustrated with films, rare exhibits and interactive displays. It reveals a continuing tradition of excellent craftsmanship and reveals how the vision and brilliance of one man in the 18th century still lives on.

The centre (http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Experience/Ref/WEDTT/Afternoon-Tea-And-Tour-For-Two?method=Occasion) is situated at the main Wedgwood factory on the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent in the English midlands. The factory in turn is sited amongst 200 acres of glorious Staffordshire countryside, an estate still owned by the company after its purchase in the late 1930’s when Wedgwood relocated from its site in the centre of Stoke.

The centre is masked by beautiful greenery and fields, alongside a series of lakes crossable by bridges. The factory itself is so impeccably designed that the sight of it is almost completely obscured until you literally stumble across it. You will experience an enlightening tour consisting of the following features:

-   The film theatre will play a 20-minute film relating the remarkable history and story of the centre’s founder, Josiah Wedgwood.
-   The exhibition area leads onto a large open-plan hall where skilled craftspeople demonstrate the techniques of ceramic manufacture. The visitor is invited to spend as much time as possible in this area, talking to the demonstrators and even having a go at some of the skills shown.
-   Visitors can throw a Jasper pot on the wheel, paint a ceramic plate, cup or flower, make a Jasper medallion, decorate a turned jasper vase or commission a unique figurine. (All of these at extra charge). Visitors can also buy a range of contemporary jewellery made exclusively at the Centre.

The new Wedgwood museum (http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/Experience/Ref/WEDTT/After...) is also a must-see. This brand-new £10 million establishment was the winner of the art prize fund in 2009 and tells the story of Josiah Wedgwood, the company he founded and the people whose skills, artistry and ingenuity have, for generations, ensure that Wedgwood has remained at the forefront of taste.

Not only will this special day provide a unique insight into the company’s history, the newlyweds (http://www.redletterdays.co.uk/occasions/weddings/) can enjoy traditional English tea including finger sandwiches, homemade cakes, quiche and assorted biscuits, along with unlimited refills. Give the happy couple a free-entry special day, with a 10% off voucher for purchases made in the visitors shop.
Now that the gift is sorted, it’s time to concentrate on the outfit, the free food and the speech!
