Bates Troy Opens Plant Expansion, Displays New Tunnel Washer System

April 21, 2011 - PRLog -- BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Bates Troy Healthcare Linen Services recently opened a 14,000-square-foot plant expansion and unveiled a new G.A. Braun batch tunnel washer system during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, press conference and tour of the facilities.

The expansion retains 165 jobs and represents a $4 million investment in the local economy, Bates Troy says.

The Braun tunnel system — including a state-of-the-art tunnel washer, extractor press, shuttle, dryers and overhead rail system — now gives the company additional capacity.

The expansion has created 10 additional jobs and given Bates Troy the ability to seek out new business.

Bates Troy has been processing 12 million pounds annually for regional healthcare clients, which include hospitals, health clinics and nursing homes within a 90-mile radius of Binghamton.

The tunnel washer is the first in a new line manufactured by Braun. The Syracuse, N.Y.-based company intends to conduct on-site field tests and use the plant as a showcase for its national sales staff, Bates Troy says.

The equipment uses fewer resources than conventional laundry equipment and even older tunnel washers, Bates Troy says. Water consumption is approximately .6 gallons per pound. Innovations in the wash cycle and dryer technology further reduce energy and resources use.

Government dignitaries attending the Oct. 27 event were State Sen. Thomas Libous, State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Binghamton Mayor Matthew T. Ryan.

Two generations of the family-owned business were on hand to cut the ribbon.

Also present were representatives of local partners and contractors involved in the project, including G.A. Braun, American Laundry Systems, Tioga State Bank, Orlando & Sons Construction, NYSERDA and Keystone Associates.
