Award winning film; ‘The Kings Speech’ brings new awareness to the gifts from challenge

April 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Colin Firth plays the role of a tormented stutterer to shear perfection. The story inspires us to rise above our challenges for something greater. Although at times the screen play can feel like it is stuck, not making much movement for periods of time, the audience is left feeling uplifted and inspired as if they had literally made the journey along with George VI, also known as Bertie.
This difficult transition plays out before us as Bertie; who truly suffers from a severe speech impediment, reluctantly takes the throne of England when his brother, Edward, abdicates in 1936.
We as an audience feel as if we each have climbed our highest empathetic mountain and joined Colin Firth in helping his character. As compassion awakens in the viewing audience, our joined hearts assist the King to rise above and deliver the defining speech of his reign. We are truly touched, moved and inspired as we progress out of the theater.
Finding innovative ways of dealing with a problem and moving beyond an obstacle doesn’t always mean curing it. It means using it, rising above it, and looking for its gift.
As I child I did not speak, and it was only after doctors convinced my parents to remove my tonsils and adenoids that I began to utter some unintelligible sentences. I was three when the surgery was performed and started my speech training when I reached school age.
I did not speak because the little person emerging was stubborn and choose not to. When I did speak, I could not do it well because I was born with a congenital defect and found it impossible to replicate the sounds others made. My lower palate was three quarters of an inch smaller then my upper palate and I had no condoles (the little ball of the jaw joint).
Surprisingly the experience of early speech training, that of listening and learning to create sounds from every part of my mouth, was training I have considered one of my greatest blessings. God always gives us exactly what we need to fulfill our soul’s purpose.
I became the excellent listener, and emerged with perfect diction several years later. Using my tongue, teeth, lips, as well as the back of my mouth and throat I spoke in beautiful easy to understand American English. I also amazingly by-passed adopting the regional accent. Through the years, and in various steps, I was able to have much of the physical impediment corrected.
As a child I had always been a little song bird. My first solo in grade school was sung in Japanese. I went on to sing in 19 languages. I was often mistaken as a native speaker of the language I sang in because of my gift of listening and replicating the sounds I heardin near perfectly.
We each are gifted miracles and blessings every day of our life.
If you are a King with a speech impediment or a child unable to speak, remember to find the blessings and gifts of your life. You are divinely blessed. We all are. Open your arms to the yes of life, and the goodness that longs to fill your parched soul. Just be the ‘YES’!Give thanks now, why wait? Allow those blessings to fill you with the light of love.
