April 18, 2011 - PRLog -- -aspect.co.uk poll highlights concerns over interest rate increases, job prospects and wage improvements-

A recent poll[1] conducted by leading London-based property maintenance and refurbishment company, aspect.co.uk, has revealed that when it comes to spending money on home improvements, the majority (59 percent) may consider holding off, due to concerns about either their job prospects or wage improvements.

The remaining 41 percent said that the potential for interest rate increases worry them more, and - as a result - would put their property updating plans on hold.

Commenting on the findings, William Davies, managing director at aspect.co.uk, said: “This of course is only a small sample of our 20,000-strong client database, but I’d suggest that it does reflect the sentiment of many of today’s homeowners.

“However, we are still seeing large numbers of people who are making improvements to their properties - particularly those who have decided to improve as opposed to move in the current climate. We are seeing a real trend for increasing space in the home, whether through adding wet rooms, bathrooms, loft and basement conversions.

“For those who are holding off on property improvements due to ongoing concerns about the economy, they are spending, but only on what they really need to – for necessary boiler repairs, and property maintenance, for example.”

Davies goes on to add: “We are all feeling unsure about what the future holds at the moment and that is having a direct impact on spending, especially on higher value work. We currently have a very healthy order book, and throughout the recession, our emergency call out business has remained strong. And, I would imagine that once people feel more secure, we will see many more home owners making bold property refurbishment plans.”
