April 17, 2011 - PRLog -- "When I am on an airplane one of the safety announcements from the flight attendant is,
“In the event of a change in cabin pressure, panels above your head will open revealing oxygen masks. Pull the mask down toward you to activate the flow of oxygen. Cover your nose and mouth with the mask. Place the elastic band around your head and continue to breathe normally. Remember to secure your own mask before assisting others.”
For years I would listen to this advice and never give it another thought.  Yes, it made sense, yet, I didn't apply it to my daily life.
Outside the airplane I would help others first, before helping myself.  I would give rather than receive.  I would attend First Aid classes and see that the emergency medical technicians and paramedics would wait for the scene to be secured.  As a nurse, I would go running in.
Recently, I realized this principle, if applied to my daily living, would be a healthful way to live my life.
So, I have begun a journey.  If I have enough oxygen then I can help others increase their oxygen level.

Breathing exercises and techniques can help us cope with life events from the mundane to the extreme stresses in our lives.  Therefore, Dr. Kay Rosenthal PhD, RN has written this E-Book as a collection of breathing techniques that can be applied in numerous situations as well as to help people expand their breathing capacity so that they will be able to lead a healthier life.

While many people suffer from respiratory disease on top of the normal every day stresses of life, most of us never really learn about breathing at home or in school.  Sometimes we are forced to learn about breathing in the middle of a crisis.  For example, in the hospital at age 80, when diagnosed with pneumonia, a respiratory therapist comes in and talks to us about taking deeper breaths and how to use an incentive spirometer.  Or we might learn to breathe while in treatment at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center as a way to reduce stress and learn to cope with life through relaxation techniques.  We might learn how to do Lamaze breathing for the birth of our first child.  Here’s your chance to learn breathing techniques before it’s too late or before it’s a crisis.  Or, if you are facing a crisis now, practice the following breathing exercises.  They are guaranteed to help.  It’s amazing what focusing on the breath will do."  Dr Rosenthal openly shares how she uses these techniques in her personal and professional life.

"There’s no limit to what working with the breath can accomplish…my own first-hand experiences with this natural healing method have convinced me that breathing well may be the master key to good health.  I recommend breath work to all my patients."  -Andrew Weil, M.D.
