SEM Link engages Metro Atlanta STEM Community in exposing K-12 students to STEM Careers

SEM Link Math and Science Career Academy's 4th Annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) Career Fair & Exhibition engages Metro Atlanta STEM Community in “Unveiling Potential through Exposure” for Metro Atlanta K-12 students.

April 18, 2011 - PRLog -- On Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10:00am- 2:00 pm at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc (SEM Link) will host its 4th Annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Career Fair and Exhibition. This event will provide K-12 students with an opportunity to explore careers and meet and interact with professionals in these fields. Georgia Tech’s Student Center Ballroom is located at 350 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA. This event is free and open to the public;  pre-registration isn't required for attendance but  is strongly suggested at http://semlinkatlstemcareerfair.eventbrite.com .
 
The STEM Career Fair and Exhibition is the signature event for SEM Link’s Math and Science Career Academy, which exposes K-12 to math and science through hands on activities, real-world applications and career exploration. This event is made possible with the support of colleges and universities, corporations, government agencies and small businesses that provide financial support and/or individuals that serve as exhibitors to expose kids to STEM careers. We are pleased to have once again as event sponsors, Eiram Creative, Georgia Institute of Technology School of Biochemistry and Chemistry, Georgia Power, the Coca-Cola Company and American Chemical Society- Georgia Local Section We are also pleased to have small businesses Phoenix Computer Consultants LLC and Music for the People Entertainment as new event sponsors. In addition to our event sponsors, we are glad to bring back crowd favorites Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and Georgia Institute of Technology.  “The impact that I have seen SEM Link have on young people has been incredible. When their eyes and minds are opened to the possibilities of how cool STEM is, it’s amazing.” Board of Directors Strategic Partnership Chair Mr. John R. Moore, III said. “Showing them things that STEM professionals do all the time and may take for granted; we need to show them, then show them how.  That is exactly what SEM Link does at this event thanks to support from colleges and universities, corporations, small and medium sized businesses and government agencies.”

SEM Link is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, founded in 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia, that promotes student achievement and career exploration in math and science for K-12 students by connecting them with individuals with backgrounds in science, engineering and mathematics. SEM Link has a two-core program model, Experimental Design Program and Math and Science Career Academy, that provide students with opportunities to develop their math and science skills by enhancing the classroom learning experience and teaching them skills that are transferable to other areas of life. Since its inception SEM Link has enhanced educational experiences for over 1000 Metro Atlanta youth through hands on math and science activities, career exploration and exposure to real world applications of math and science.  In January 2010, SEM Link expanded its programs to the Bay Area to enhance the educational experiences for Bay Area youth.
