Eventually she migrated to Australia and after various jobs found herself the manager of a large travel company which allowed her regular visit back to Poland.
Known to be eccentric and outspoken Ursula rejected many marriage proposals to keep her independence and later in life became a qualified accountant.
Ursula has truly captured the harshness and desperation of the times under Hitler as well as under the Soviet regime in Poland. Also in Australia the ignorance of locals towards foreigners is honestly captured by a woman whose English is self taught.
Ursula Widawska has written about her life so far, and now that she has finished she wonders what to do with time from now on. Her hobby of target shooting is not the only thing she wants to do. She loves variety and refuses to join any of the seniors clubs or activities because she finds them boring and wants to do something to make other people happy. Maybe she’ll take cooking lessons for the English housewives or travel again. She is currently working on a fiction manuscript and lives in Berrima, near Wollongong with her dogs Milka and Genia.
