April 14, 2011 - PRLog -- SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Winesday© is a virtual wine tasting event created seven years ago by Recipe, a food & beverage marketing company, as a fun way to try new wines and “unwine” in the middle of the week. Recipe has participated in 364 Winesdays© and continues to hold the event at their San Luis Obispo office every Wednesday, making it the longest ongoing virtual wine tasting event.

Every month through their social media channels, Recipe announces the varietal they will be tasting, along with the bottle they choose to uncork each Wednesday. Recipe invites others to try the same varietal from their home, office, or even stop by the Recipe location for a taste. Recipe’s blog, Facebook, and Twitter keep followers updated so they can enjoy Winesday© from virtually anywhere. During the month of April, Winesday© will feature several wines of the Rhone varietal.

“Winesday© was started because we wanted something to look forward to on Wednesdays. We have fun trying new wines without having to analyze them. If you ask any winemaker, they aren’t bottling knowledge, they’re bottling enjoyment,” says Frank Scotti, owner and creative director of Recipe.

Virtual wine tasting has become increasingly popular in recent years with the rise of social media. Gary Vaynerchuck, creator and host of Wine Library TV, has grown a community of over 80,000 followers from his web series, blog, Twitter, and Facebook. He has made appearances on several national television programs and has been featured in various newspapers, magazines, and radio shows. Vaynerchuck’s aim is similar to Recipe’s Winesday© in that it creates a virtual community encouraging people to participate in wine tasting in a fun, innovative way.

Winesday© gives wineries, wine lovers, and the casual drinker the convenient opportunity to share their love of wine without the limitations of location. Recipe has partnered with Central Coast Wines for their weekly bottle selections, and encourages local wineries to use Winesday© as a chance to recommend their own wines to wine lovers exploring new varieties.

“It is a huge opportunity for wineries. If they want to promote their wine, they can come post on our Facebook page anytime ¬¬– we’re open to it. They don’t have to drag out the tables, the tents, the pourers…It’s free marketing,” says Ellen Curtis, owner and managing partner of Recipe.
