Colombia Infrastructure Report Q2 2011: New research report available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 14, 2011 - BMI View: The lapse of Columbian government's infrastructure stimulus plan implemented in 2009 has had a strong negative effect on the sector. As a result investments have declined and, in spite of expectations, Colombia's infrastructure and wider construction sector appears to have contracted over 2010. The latest available data from statistics agency DANE do not leave much room for optimism and indicate a contraction in the pace of investment, mainly in transport. We have thus moderated our industry value growth outlook for 2011 and 2012 taking into account the registered contraction.

Over the long term however, we maintain a positive outlook for the Colombian infrastructure sector:

* An attractive business environment.
 * A government committed to high levels of infrastructure investment.
 * Several large scale projects planned, such as the Hidroituango power plant, Oleoducto Bicentenario oil pipeline and the Bogota Metro.


There was a great deal of activity in Colombia's power and water sectors in the last quarter. Italy's Impreglio won a US$341mn contract to build a 400MW hydroelectric facility on the Magdalena River; local utilities operator Empresas Municipales de Cali conducted preliminary studies for a US$100mn project to expand the Canaveralejo wastewater treatment plant; and it was reported that the government will issue a tender in 2011 for the first phase of Bogota's planned US$1.1bn Canoas wastewater treatment plant.
