St. Vincent de Paul Seattle Welcomes New Executive Director, Ned Delmore

April 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Seattle/ King County is pleased to announce that appointment of Ned Delmore as its new Executive Director. In each of the past five years, the 2-1-1 Community Information Line has referred more people to St. Vincent de Paul for basic needs assistance than to any agency in our community.

“I am very excited to join St. Vincent de Paul and work with our board, staff, volunteers and donors to help our neighbors in need during these challenging times," said Ned Delmore. "The weeping of the poor grows louder and my mother’s words sound a clarion call, ‘We are all poor in one way or another; that is why we need each other.”

Delmore brings over 35 years experience in working to turn lives around.  Since 1975 he has worked in residential treatment with youth and families, and managed at every level within the juvenile court system.  As director of services for the Kitsap Juvenile Department, Delmore was in charge of a 104-bed detention center and 100 employees in Port Orchard. In the last sixteen years in Kitsap County, he was credited with making Kitsap’s juvenile justice system more rehabilitative and less custodial and getting to the root of self-destructive behavior.

He is a longtime Seattle resident and was a student at St. Joseph Parish School on Capitol Hill. He also attended Seattle Prep High and Garfield High Schools and was a prolific basketball player. His one game record of 42 points stood for 37 years at Seattle Prep. He is married to Janet, a skilled teacher at St. Benedict Parish, has three adult children and attends Our Lady of the Lakes Parish.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ned Delmore to St. Vincent de Paul,” says James Gauntt, President of the Board of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Seattle/King County. “We will continue to provide for the neediest among us and we must expand our efforts to support those in need.”

Delmore has a master’s degree in Rehabilitation from Seattle University and an undergraduate degree from Central Washington State College.

Delmore replaces Andre de Klaver who is retiring after being Executive Director for the past six years for St. Vincent de Paul.

St. Vincent de Paul is known for its 53 neighborhood, all-volunteer groups in Seattle/King County which help to prevent eviction, hunger, utility shut-offs and more. Additional programs include thrift stores, food distribution programs, case management program and other community outreaches to help neighbors in need.

It is part of the international Society of St. Vincent de Paul which helps the poor in 142 nations and was a 2008 Nobel Peace Prize nominee. St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay-run charity helping all in need regardless of creed or any other factor and has served poor in Seattle since 1920. Its motto is “We’ll be There.”
