SYOSSET, NY, April 13, 2011 – According to recent U.S. Census Bureau data, almost 19% of the U.S. population over the age of 5 have a disability of some level; ranging from Autism or Down syndrome, to physical or developmental conditions, or even catastrophic-event disabilities such as brain or spinal injuries (“Americans with Disabilities: 2005,” U.S. Census Bureau, December 2008).
Acknowledging the size of this market and the need to provide  information and guidance for families, Jeffrey R. Silverman, CFP®, the Director of Special Needs Planning for the Center for Wealth Preservation in Syosset, New York, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), has developed a new radio program “Special Needs Long Island” that provides a forum for organizations, professionals and families to share information in order to assist in  providing  for and protecting their family members with special needs.
According to Mr. Silverman, “There are a lot of wonderful organizations and professionals who provide great service to the special needs community.  “Special Needs Long Island” is an opportunity for them to let families know what types of services are available and how they help families who are caring for loved ones with special needs.”
Mr. Silverman hosts the weekly show that is broadcast Monday evenings from 6:30-7:00 p.m. EST on WGBB 1240 AM and simulcast on the internet at www.am1240WGBB.com.
