Implementing shared services strategies has long been viewed as an effective way of boosting productivity, value and growth among UK businesses, but this has not always been true in the public sector.

However, the new coalition government has begun to make good on the claims of the previous regime that shared services are the way forwards to cut costs and maximise output.

The Scottish government claims that shared services is a key contributor to driving efficiencies and tackling budget pressures in the current economic climate, and this now appears to be something the coalition has recognised.
