Great Hotels of the World is delighted to announce that its members are nominated for more than 100 awards at the 2011 World Travel Awards, which will take place in November. The hotels are not only nominated as the leading hotels for their country but in some cases, the entire continent. This applies to hotels such as Sandton Sun, nominated for Africa’s leading business hotel and Africa’s leading meetings and corporate hotel, not to mention Sabi Sabi Game Reserve nominated for Africa’s leading luxury lodge and Africa’s leading safari lodge. This does not only apply to Africa, but also Australasia where Airways Hotel in Papua New Guinea has been nominated for Australasia’s leading airport hotel, having already won world’s leading airport hotel at last year’s awards. Other nominations include Bintan Lagoon nominated for Asia’s leading Golf Resort, Quinta da Bela Vista nominated for Europe’s leading boutique hotel, Gran Bahia Del Duque nominated for Europe’s leading luxury resort and Moevenpick Istanbul and Carlo IV in Prague nominated for both Europe’s leading city hotel and Europe’s leading business hotel, which they have each won in previous years.

Forte Village is nominated for 8 awards this year, after winning a total of 45 World Travel Awards thus far. The hotel has been nominated for awards such as Europe’s leading resort, The Mediterranean’s leading resort and Europe’s leading green resort. Forte Village has also won the world’s leading resort for the past nine years and picked up the award for world’s leading green resort last year. Mardan Palace is nominated for 6 awards this year, after winning awards including world’s leading luxury hotel and world’s leading royal suite last year. Other members including Columbia Beachotel are in the running for the Mediterranean’s leading spa resort and Londa Hotel is nominated for the Mediterranean’s leading boutique hotel, having won this award for the past three years.

Royal Wing Suites and Spa welcomes supercar club members

Great Hotels of the World member Royal Wing Suites and Spa had the pleasure of welcoming members of the Ferrari Club and Cavallino Motors for the official launch of the Ferrari GTO 599 at the hotel. This Ferrari is the latest and fastest model with only one of its kind in the whole of Thailand. More than 50 club members and their families attended this event with an entourage of over 20 eye-catching Ferraris. The Vice President handed over the keys to the rightful owner and the evening continued with champagne and a celebratory party with a beach-themed dinner, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The club members went on to spend an enjoyable weekend at the Royal Wing where the cars were strikingly parked on the driveway of the hotel to the delight of many guests.

Continuing on the supercar theme, the hotel has also recently welcomed members of the Lamborghini Club, Bangkok, who chose The Royal Wing as the perfect setting for their ‘monthly track’ holiday getaway.

Royal Wing Suites and Spa introduces new branding initiative
Royal Wing Suites and Spa has also introduced a new branding enhancement initiative, designed to attract a wider audience, create a new guest experience and offer assurance to exceed the hotel’s high expectations. New Head Chef joins The Quay Hotel and Spa

Great Hotels of the World is pleased to announce that renowned chef, Aled Williams has joined the expanding team of top Chefs at the Quay Hotel and Spa. Williams’ background includes working as the Gordon Ramsay Scholar at the BBC Good Food Show, gaining experience in restaurants in Australia, New York, Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck and Gordon Ramsey’s restaurants in London. Williams also represented Wales in the 2010 Great British Menu Final, the youngest chef to take part. Williams’ approach and extensive research in sourcing local produce reflects the menu aspirations and standards offered at the Quay Hotel and Spa and Great Hotels of the World is happy to welcome him to the hotel’s team.

Quay Hotel and Spa wins ‘best leisure complex’ award

Great Hotels of the World’s Quay Hotel and Spa has been awarded ‘Best Leisure Complex’ for Conwy at the prestigious Best Bar None Award Ceremony. The Best Bar None Awards is an initiative supported nationally by the Home Office and British Institute of Inkeepers and locally by Conwy and Denbighshire County Councils, North Wales Police and North Wales Fire Rescue Service to promote responsible management of licensed premises. Quay Hotel and Spa believes the scheme provides an excellent format to promote best practice and lift the profile of a broad range of establishments providing a variety of offerings across the country.

New Manager at St James’s Hotel and Club for William’s Bar and Bistro
 
Great Hotels of the World’s member, St James’s Hotel and Club in London is delighted to appoint Zdenek Zeman as the new Manager of their informal restaurant, William’s Bar and Bistro. The Bistro, together with the fine dining restaurant, Seven Park Place, is run by Executive Chef William Drabble. Zdenek’s past experience includes being Bar Manager at the renowned Donovan Bar in Brown’s Hotel, as well as senior bar positions at the Four Seasons Park Lane and the Four Seasons in Prague for many years. Zdenek will be hosting the cocktail Master Classes at The St James’s each month from May.
