Parker SSD Drives Launches Registration Control for Printing and Converting Applications

High-performance Sin/Cos encoder input boards for AC890 and AC890PX system drives provide registration control without the expense and complexity of an external position control.

April 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Parker SSD Drives is pleased to announce the launch of two high-performance registration option boards for AC890 and AC890PX system drives. The options are used in printing and converting applications where a precise operation is to be performed with relation to a registration mark or marks on the web. The new 8903/M1 and 8902/M1 registration options allow reference and feedback sine/cosine position encoders to be connected directly to the drive, providing highly accurate speed and position feedback measurement and registration without an external registration control. With the options, the drive can decode absolute position encoders and deliver 5V or 10V supply to the encoder.

The 8902/M1 option board accepts feedback from a sin/cos encoder with maximum pulse rate up to 250kHz. The 8903/M1 option board does the same with a reference encoder, plus features four optically isolated digital inputs that can be configured as inputs for registration mark sensors, and three digital outputs that can be used for synthesizing an encoder output. Equipped with the options, the AC890 and AC890PX can achieve high-performance registration control in shaftless printing and converting applications, generally not possible in drive systems without expensive external registration controllers. A common problem with mark registration is that poor quality of marks, spurious marks, or EMC problems can cause the system to attempt to register to the wrong mark. The AC890 registration configuration provides a function block to reject unwanted marks, and only act on valid marks. This can be achieved by selecting the appropriate MARK METHOD, optionally in combination with windowing.

Functions included:
•   One mark or two mark registration control
•   Phase move/offset
•   Error correction
•   Teach In mode
•   Mark edge detect
•   Windowing to reject spurious marks

Parker SSD Drives recommend the following encoders:
•   Heidenhain EQN425 EnDat 2.1 1V p-p multi-turn absolute encoder
•   Heidenhain ECN413 EnDat 2.1 1V p-p single-turn absolute encoder
•   Heidenhain ERN430 1V p-p encoder
•   Stegmann HG660 AKR(xxxx)S 1V p-p encoder
•   Stegmann HG660 DKR(xxxx)S 1V p-p encoder
•   Hengstler RIS58-H 1V p-p encoder
