Local Business Report: Denver-Based Company EcoJoia

EcoJoia Expands to Ten Non-Profit Partners
By: Julia Hawley

April 13, 2011 - PRLog -- In the past year, Denver-based online retailer ‘EcoJoia’ has added five more non-profit organizations to their partner list. Currently EcoJoia works with: Save Japan Dolphins, In Defense of Animals, PangeaSeed, HelpElephants.com, Hawksbill Hope, Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project, Heart of Green, Trees Water & People, Haiti Reconstruction, and Earth Island Institute. Founded in July of 2009 by brother/sister duo Ry Hawley and Julia Hawley, EcoJoia has grown drastically since the start.

Creating custom web stores with campaign-based merchandise for each partner, EcoJoia is able to donate 25-50% of the sell price of the merchandise directly to the partnering organization. The success of EcoJoia is in large part due to partner Save Japan Dolphins. The Save Japan Dolphins campaign became widely known after 2009 documentary ‘The Cove’ won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary and was featured on Oprah’s 2010 Earth Day special.

In the past year EcoJoia has not only added five partner organizations but they also co-sponsored the ‘Whistle Blowing for Peace Art and Music Festival’ March 26th, 2011 here in Denver. EcoJoia designed and sold t-shirts for the event to benefit national non-profit organization Falling Whistles.  The local company has a commitment to staying local from hiring employees and interns from Denver and surrounding areas to working with local screen printers to produce their products.

EcoJoia’s continually growing Facebook fan base and increasing local presence makes the company a valuable member of Denver and the greater Colorado community. EcoJoia is in collaboration with local coffee roasters Novo Coffee as well as specialty sandwich shop Back Country Provisions by designing organic cotton t-shirts for these companies.
EcoJoia believes in the power of a t-shirt. “A t-shirt is a small billboard to share your stance. An organic t-shirt keeps destructive chemicals out of the ground. A t-shirt is a tool for an organization to raise money and to promote its cause. A t-shirt can spark change."
