April 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Start-up business Owners Darren Leighfield and Gareth Thompson have reached out via the Social Media Channel, Twitter, to some prominent names in business to assist them with a brilliant idea that will see companies or people bidding on a ‘business box’ which is up for grabs on Auction site Ebay. The proceeds of which will be donated to the international disaster relief charity, Shelterbox to assist the people of Japan.

The idea was born in a moment in the shower by Darren, who stated ‘It isn’t often I think of Brad Burton in the Shower’. This phenomenal idea is sure to take the Public as well as the Social Media worlds by storm. Twitter has been the main driver of this campaign and serves to teach us that this relatively new platform may be the ultimate spring board for start-up businesses in need of a good form of advertising and networking for very little cost.

“What if we can get some of our twitter connections to donate services/time/items to an auction where we can raise more funds for Japan, using well known brand names and local business peoples offerings and at the same time help start-ups or established businesses to get out there with a package of services” said Darren Leighfield.
Darren and Gareth had already launched itsnotmuch.co.uk in record time to assist the people of Japan alongside Shelterbox after they watched everyone sending wishes and prayers, they said ‘Instead of sending wishes, why not send money!’ so they have, with social media as the driving force of raising the funds.  To date it has brought in £3065.00 and while this continues to tick along, it isn’t raising the initial aim which was £10 000.00. So after some thought they went back to the drawing board and the new project ‘business box’ was born to boost the fundraising efforts.

Darren and Gareth have now collectively called on and signed up people they are connected to through twitter to offer this package. The names of the people who have signed up to donate something towards this is staggering and a brilliant blend of start-ups and well known names working together to help a worthy cause. ‘With Startup Britain being launched recently this should be an example of how established businesses can mentor & support start-ups from the outset.’ Said Gareth Thompson.

The auction is already live on eBay and boasts some big names. Here are a few that adorn the list: Sarah Beeney (TV Presenter), Rachel Elnaugh (Ex Dragon), Heather Townsend (Author of Financial times guide), Brad Burton (Founder of 4 Networking) and Nikki Pilkington (Internet Marketing Expert). The services and items on offer range from Mentoring to books for business.

For the full listing, more information and services being offered in the ‘business box’ visit the website at:  www.itsnotmuch.co.uk. You will Find a link to the Ebay advert there.
‘If you had any doubts about the power of Social media, this should reaffirm that we are living in a new age of technology where ideas come to life in a few tweets. Isn’t it phenomenal?!’ said Darren.
