At the event, books became more than covers, bindings, words and illustrations. They became an act of love.
Each month at Ekklesia – a local Raleigh church meeting at Athens Drive High School – the Children’s Ministry holds an Agape Sunday, a day dedicated to serving others. For the month of March, they hosted their own Milk and Bookies event. From Berenstain Bears to Veggie Tales to Goodnight Moon to Transformers™ While Jesus never said, “I wanted something to read and you gave me a book,” the heart of this concept is very much in line with Jesus words in Matthew 25, “I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.” About the event, a thirteen-year- A catch phrase you will hear often at their 10:30am services is “Sunday is not the main event.” They believe the real measure of Sunday’s success is found in what happens the rest of the week; that Monday through Saturday should be just as compelling and beautiful as Sunday; and that the surrounding communities and neighborhoods should be better because the church is there. Milk and Bookies is one such way Ekklesia is aiming to make this true.
