According to founding pastor Jeff Mikels, “The bottom line is that our church is specifically designed to be an encouragement for people who are uncomfortable with church, have been burned in the past, or have never been interested in institutionalized religion at all.” Mikels continues, “Our mission is to simply help people find full life in Christ.”
According to Mikels, “After years of "wandering,"
Mikels previously served as senior pastor at Northwest Baptist Church in Chicago before he and his wife, Jen, met Gary Rohrmayer. Gary was the director of Converge MidAmerica Church Planting. Shortly after meeting with Gary, Jeff and Jen attended a TeAMerica Church Planter’s Assessment Center where they were given the highest recommendation for aspiring church planters. Shortly after, Jeff and Jen moved to Lafayette, Indiana and started Lafayette Community Church with a desire to help people who are uncomfortable with the traditional church settings.
Mikels states, “I have met a number of people who tell me they have given up on church but not on God. I agree with them in many respects, but I can’t agree that giving up on healthy spiritual friendships is also good. If we give up on anything, let’s give up on the stuff Jesus gave up and keep the stuff he kept.
Lafayette Community Church today has a very strong following and encourages those who are looking for God in a different way to visit on Easter Sunday. The Easter Service will be held on April 24 at 10:30 am. Dress is casual and attendees are encouraged to come as they are – just come.
