Follow on Google News | Manchester to host the first ever English Curry AwardsThe city will pay homage to the nation’s favourite dish in an evening of celebration and awards
By: Oceanic Group Hype is growing around the debut event which is to be held on 25th July 2011 in Manchester’s Sheridan Suite. The ceremony has already become an institution in Scotland where The Scottish Curry Awards are now in their fourth year running with past winners even including the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond. The English version of the event is set to flourish and bloom like it’s Scottish counterpart, acting as a platform to showcase and reward the talented folk within the booming curry industry in a hot ‘n’ happening evening of lively celebrations and entertainment. Chefs, restaurants, takeaways, supermarkets and individuals who simply worship the cuisine will finally be recognised and rewarded for their dedication and hard work that goes along way in leaving our taste buds tingling and our stomachs satisfied. Manchester has been picked as the number one location to host the ceremony due to its famous affection for the spicy food. The city even sports an entire ‘curry mile’ which boats the largest concentration of Asian restaurants in the UK. Over 65,000 diners are attracted to the Rusholme curry mile every single week clearly indicating that Manchester really does go that extra mile for its love of the spicy dish. Yasmin Mahmood, Campaign Manager for the awards thinks the choice of city is perfect, she said: “It’s undeniably the best place to host the English Curry Awards. The Mancs are well-known for being curry lovers; the city has countless top class restaurants and takeaways on its world famous curry mile. Since the Scottish Curry Awards have thrived year after year, it’s definitely about time to platform England’s love of the dish too in this debut event!” Last year alone, the Scottish Curry Awards received over 5000 nominations with 700 guests attending the ceremony paying homage to the eastern delight. With such tales of success from across the border, the English can expect a similar hit. Nominations for the 2011 English Curry Awards will open on the 11th of April and will close on the 20th of June.
