Columbus’ Smartest Bars Plan Big Check-In

April 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Columbus, OH – On April 16th, Foursquare users worldwide will celebrate Foursquare Day, a holiday dedicated to the power of social media.

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory officially proclaimed April 16th (04.4^2.11) to be Foursquare Day, and Columbus’ own The Little Bar is refusing to let Columbus be one-upped by our Queen City neighbors to the south.

Foursquare is a popular social media platform that allows users to “check-in” via mobile device at various locations. Incentives for checking in include electronic badges, points and exclusive deals and discounts. The user with the most check-ins is crowned the “Mayor”, and mayorship can include privileges.

The Little Bar, a campus favorite, is determined that Columbus not be left out. With the help of Barry Chandler from Interactive Hospitality, The Little Bar is pulling out all the stops for its first-ever Foursquare Day event.

“The Little Bar is really embracing digital marketing and getting creative with it," Chandler said. ”We want to use Foursquare Day as an opportunity to make sure Columbus – a top flight social media city – is recognized for its new media leadership amongst Ohio cities."

Foursquare and smart phones have proliferated at The Little Bar, with more than 600 different customers checking in over 1,400 times in the past few months, making it one of Columbus’ premier “Check-In” locations.

Chandler’s Interactive Hospitality has constructed a host of Foursquare Day attractions and specials for The Little Bar, complete with an official ribbon cutting ceremony led by Little Bar’s current Foursquare Mayor, Lorenzo Moultrie.

“It’s a sense of community,” Moultrie said. “I love coming out to a bar that appreciates and recognizes its loyal customers.”

“In the past five years, we’ve seen an amazing proliferation of smart phones, mobile apps, and
social media – it’s a job in and of itself just to keep up, ” Chandler said. “There are more efficient ways than ever before to get people in the door, and Foursquare happens to be one of them.”

April 16th, or 04.16 – 04.42.11, is a day to celebrate the global reach of social media. Foursquare Day has garnered the attention of the world, with online groups sprouting up on five continents including Europe, Asia, Africa, and South and North America.
