April 5, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, NY – For the past 20 years SCOPE (http://www.scope-ny.org) has changed the lives of inner-city children by giving them the opportunity to attend summer camp.  A summer at camp can put struggling child on the right track, give a child in a desperate situation something to dream about, and provide a powerful network of peers and adults who offer support and encouragement throughout the entire year.  On April 6th, the Annual Dinner to Benefit SCOPE will celebrate the impact of camp on the 15,000 underprivileged children who have gone to summer camp because of SCOPE’s support.

The event, returning to New York City after five years away, will feature a cocktail hour, awards dinner, and a live fundraising appeal. During the cocktail hour attendees will have the opportunity to play ping pong with Atanda Musa, an international champion who competed on the Nigerian Olympic Table Tennis team.  At the awards ceremony SCOPE will honor HELP USA for their remarkable work with children and 4 “Legends of Camping” for their contribution to the summer camping profession. The event will conclude with a Sponsor a Child fundraiser where attendees will fund “camperships” to send children to camp this summer.

The power of these camperships is clear.  In the words of a SCOPE camper, at camp a child can learn, “life lessons, new skills, and most importantly, how to make the right choices and right friends.”  To learn more about the summer camp experience, visit SCOPE’s blog Campers Say Thanks (http://camperssaythanks.blogspot.com) featuring letters and essays written by the children whose lives have been changed by SCOPE.
Event sponsors include Camp America, Camp Craze, The Dime Bank, LICAPS, Pierce Country Day School – Camp, and Vivanista.  If you would like more information about this topic, or to be a media guest, please call Sara Kirkwood at 860-614-0880 or email at skirkwood@scope-ny.org.
