O2 Media Continues in the “War Against Obesity” with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation

Branded Entertainment Pioneers O2 Media welcomes back the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation to The Balancing Act's “War Against Obesity” series.  Join show host Danielle Knox along with special guests, NFL All-Pros Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain, and from the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, Lisa Gable.  

It's one of the great ironies of modern society – many children idolize professional athletes but fail to make fitness a priority in their own lives. A third of American kids are now overweight, and the problem is especially widespread in low-income neighborhoods. Madison and Surtain have teamed up with the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation in the fight against obesity.  Make sure you tune in to O2 Media’s premiere women’s morning show, ‘The Balancing Act’ April 25th at 7:00am (ET/PT) airing on Lifetime Television as they discuss kids' fitness strategies—that really work.

Gable says, “Appearing on ‘The Balancing Act’ is a great opportunity to discuss with viewers our partnership with the ‘nPlay Foundation, a group of 35 professional athletes who have programs all over the country aimed at fighting childhood obesity."

Through the support of the ‘nPlay Foundation, Madison and Surtain run after-school programs aimed at improving health in low-income communities.  

Madison, who is also owner of Aero Athletics, runs the after-school programs in low-income communities.  “Our goal is to teach kids the skills that made us successful professional athletes – skills that will help them on the football field but also help them with all-around fitness," says Madison.

Surtain adds, “We also want give a helping hand by being mentors-- which most kids don’t have.  Many kids don't realize how important health is to accomplishing their goals. When kids have a healthy mind—they’ll in turn have a healthy body."

The ‘nPlay Foundation is a very well-rounded program. They offer tutors to help kids with their homework-- then focus on athletics.  In the program they also discuss nutrition, and give the kids a chance to exercise and teach proper technique for playing football.  This both Madison and Surtain agree is a great motivation to get them interested in fitness.
