In the event titled “A conversation with Mike Smith”, the discussion will be about ethics in sports, faith and family, and Mike's transition from professional athlete to sports broadcaster. USC's Dean of Religious Life, Varun Soni, will moderate the conversation.
The April 11th Spirituality and Sports event is a program by USC's Office of Religious Life which explores the spiritual dimensions of sports including the transformative powers of organized sports to the ritual, pilgrimage, and community orientations that organized sports share with organized religions. This program hosts discussions with Olympic athletes, sports stars, and USC Trojan legends in order to uncover the rich layers of meaning, purpose, and identity that sports imparts to its practitioners. Previous speakers include Matt Leinart, Ryan Khalil, Wes Parker, Louis Zamperini, Peter Vidmar, and John Naybor.
