New York Fitness Professionals Emphasize “Anatomically Correct” Approach to Conditioning

According to New Rochelle, NY-based New York Fitness Professionals, not knowing how to correctly use weight-training and cardiovascular equipment is reason why so many people realize little if any improvement in their fitness or weight loss.

April 1, 2011 - PRLog -- A lot of gym “bunnies” and “rats” work out faithfully, several times a week, but realize little difference in terms of strengthening, overall fitness and, if an issue, weight loss.
According to Joseph Hunt, one of the principals of New York Fitness Professionals (NYFP) in New Rochelle, not knowing how to correctly use weight-training and cardiovascular equipment, as well as not knowing how to properly position, lift, push, pull, and coordinate every imaginable body part, is reason why so many people realize little if any improvement in their fitness or weight loss.
“The lack of progress or noticeable improvement ultimately contributes toward many people abandoning a regular exercise regiment,” noted Hunt, a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  Hunt runs regular fitness “boot camps” for groups of up to eight people.  The 12-class boot camp, paid in full upon registration, costs $250, a savings of $50.  “Each participant gets a specifically designed program and individual coaching, but in a group environment,” said Hunt. The April boot camp is offered at 5:30 AM or 7:30 PM, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“Every function in fitness and conditioning exercises has a proper form.  Some of our clients initially find that they can’t remember all of the body positioning steps that I coach them through with each routine. But once they get the hang of it and learn how and where to hold their heads or shoulders or arms or elbows or stomach or buttocks or legs – often all of the above – in a specific way, they quickly see what a difference it makes in their workout.  That’s also when they start seeing body fat reduction and muscle tone improvement, and overall higher levels of energy and cardio fitness.”
Using the correct form and equipment when training is even more essential if there is an underlying medical condition, added Rui Mateus, Hunt’s business partner. Certified by the American Academy of Health, Fitness & Rehabilitation Professionals (www.postrehab.com) as a Medical Exercise Specialist, Mateus noted that NYFP won’t even take on a client with a pre-existing medical condition without first consulting with his or her medical doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist.  “We are the bridge between recuperation from a life-threatening or physically debilitating disease to a long-term more active and healthier lifestyle. Our approach emphasizes regular exercise and better nutrition. They must work hand-in-hand in order to optimize results.”
Mateus said that common ailments that New York Fitness Professionals treat include arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, bone, joint and muscle disorders, spinal conditions, pre and post-natal conditioning, and obesity.  “But too many people take their doctor’s advice literally when told ‘you need to lose 20 pounds’.  They may head right to the gym but without first getting some guidance.  They first need direction on the proper and safe way to get rid of that extra weight. Without professional guidance and coaching, they are not only bound to get discouraged quickly but there could be some life-threatening consequences.”
New York Fitness Professionals is located at 175 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle, opposite Sound Shore Medical Center and one block from the MetroNorth station. For more information or to schedule a free consultation and assessment, call 914-355-5930.
