Vorpahl Fire and Safety Introduces Ergodyne SHAX 6000 and 6020 Portable Work Tents

When looking at new and innovative products for the upcoming construction and landscaping season, two things always comes to my mind, heat and hydration. Believe me, here in Green Bay we will be seeing our fare share of construction with the US 41 expansion happening right in front of our doors.

My reasoning for the liking of the new SHAX™ 6000 Series has to do with the California OSHA standards that may soon apply to many more if not all states in the near future. The definition states in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, 3395(d) Access to Shade: Employees must have access to an area with shade that is either open to the air or provided with ventilation or cooling for a period of no less than five minutes. “Shade” means blockage of direct sunlight, canopies, umbrellas, and other temporary structures or devices may be used to provide shade. One indicator that blockage is sufficient when objects do not cast a shadow in the area of blocked sunlight.

The CAL OSHA regulation also states of proper training of all employees and supervisors about heat illness prevention, provide enough fresh water so that each employee can drink at least 1 quart per hour, and encourage them to do so; and develop and implement written procedures for complying with
the CAL/OSHA Heat Illness Prevention Standard.
