MicroPower Technologies Announces Availability of Rugged-i Wireless Solar Video Camera

March 31, 2011 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO, Calif. — MicroPower Technologies, Inc., creator of the world’s most power-efficient wireless video camera technology, today announced availability of its Rugged-i™ wireless video surveillance camera.  Rugged-i is a completely self-contained, solar-powered camera which allows for placement anywhere because it is not constrained by wires or cables.  The flexibility of the Rugged-i enables users to augment their existing IP surveillance systems or install an alternative video camera solution in areas that may not be accessible with current surveillance cameras.

MicroPower’s Rugged-i features an integrated solar cell array that reduces power consumption by as much as 95 percent and provides continuous operation, even in low-light environments.  The compact, power-efficient solar panels are directly mounted on the camera housing which generates power to the integrated internal recharging system, enabling 24x7x365 operation.  The distinctive design of the Rugged-i offers a compelling alternative to other solar solutions which require external solar panel and battery installation, which are costly, cumbersome and impractical.

The Rugged-i camera can be networked with the MicroPower MiniHub™ wireless video hub with a line-of-sight range of up to five miles (with directional antennas). This configuration is designed for multipoint-to-point streaming video applications and is compatible with most network video recorder (NVR) solutions and IP networks.  Video and data are transmitted utilizing MicroPower’s proprietary TrustLinx™ encrypted wireless interface.  TrustLinx is a customized license-free wireless protocol which operates with extreme reliability, even in congested WiFi environments.
