Quaker Lane, Alexandria Virginia May 13th through 15th.
By: Ms. Donna Quesinberry, Principal dpInk Beginning at 9:30 a.m., Saturday May 14th, 2011 Swordfest demonstrations are presented by World Renown Mixed Art Edged Weaponry Specialists and last until 4:30 p.m. Our talented Swordsmen and Swordswomen present unique capabilities derived from unparalleled craftsmanship earned through years of training and practice. Certainly, the 2011 Swordfest and a visit to the Virginia Kenshinkai of the Capital Area Budokai is a worthwhile consideration this spring. Demos on Saturday are free, a donation box will be located at the dojo entrance and we hope our guests and visitors will take an opportunity to consider donating to the Virginia Kenshinkai to aid us in furthering our community centered programs. During the Kenshinkai's three day Swordfest Japanese Community and Mixed Edged Weaponry Sword Art event vendors will also be displaying their crafts, literature, and sword (mixed edged weaponry) artifacts. We are presenting a series of prize drawings comprised of collectibles and art-wares. This is a rare opportunity to garner insight from these swords art stars and to capture avant garde photographs while gaining an intrinsic comprehension for East and West Mixed Edged Weaponry Sword Arts. Practicing Swordsmen and Swordswomen are genuinely happy to connect with guests and discuss original art-forms, which often date far into history. These professional artisans provide a glimpse into preceding worlds and this this year's event provides another rare opportunity via the following itinerary: Friday 13 May 2011 – Training Schedule 05:45 pm 06:00 pm Welcome to 2011 Swordfest Training Series #1 06:00 pm 10:00 pm Training Seminar Sessions 10:00 pm 12:00 am Washington DC Activities | Epic Sedan City Tours Saturday 14 May 2011 – Mixed Sword Art Demonstrations 09:15 am 09:30 am Welcome by Sensei Drawdy 09:30 - 09:50 am Northern Virginia Budokai, Kendo - Brian Sherry Sensei 09:50 - 10:10 am Northern Virginia Tendokan, Aratashii Naginata - Fran Vall Sensei 10:10 - 10:30 am Capital Area Jodokai, Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo - Dan Pearson Sensei 10:30 - 11:00 am NY Historical Fencing Association - Michael Edelson Lead Instructor 11:00 - 11:30 am Shin Dojo, Mugai Ryu Meishiha - Rob Rivers Sensei 11:30 - 12:00 pm Yagyu Shinkage Ryu Hyoho - Paul Manogue Sensei 12:00 - 12:30 pm Lunch Break 12:30 - 12:50 pm Shakuhachi Flute Playing - Raymond Sosnowski Sensei 12:50 - 01:20 pm Virginia Kenshinkai Nakamura Ryu Batto Do - Dave Drawdy Sensei 01:20 - 01:50 pm Byakkokan Dojo, Toyama Ryu, USBDF - Sang Kim Sensei 01:50 - 02:20 pm Northern Virginia Assalto - Steven Reich Lead Instructor 02:30 - 02:50 pm Shutokukan Dojo - Meik Skoss Sensei 02:50 - 03:20 pm Shin Shin Sekiguchi Ryu - Carl McClafferty Sensei 03:20 - 04:05 pm Hobyokan Dojo - David Hall Sensei 04:05 - 04:35 pm Northern Virginia Kyudo Kai - Bill Reid Sensei 05:30 - 09:00 pm Sensei Reception Sunday 15 May 2011 – Training Schedule 07:45 am 08:00 am Welcome to 2011 Swordfest Training Series #2 08:00 - 12:00 pm Training Seminar Sessions 12:00 - 12:15 pm Closing Thoughts by Sensei Drawdy Washington DC Activities | Epic Sedan City Tours We appreciate your support and look forward to your participation. The Kenshinkai is a branch Dojo within the IBF. We are hosting Judges and Senior Sensei from Japan with invitations to international branches (Britain, Serbia, Indonesia, and Australia). All exhibitors, vendors, sponsors, marketers and literature distributors from the 2011 Swordfest are first tier of invitees for IBF participation next spring. Various Japanese Sword Art Dojos throughout the United States (Florida, NY, California, plus others) are committed to attend and support Tai Kai in 2012 as well, which is to be an excellent Sword Art event opportunity. # # # A woman-owned, small-business development consultancy, dpInk delivers emergent media remedies for individuals, business start-ups, small, mid-size and Inc. 500 | Fortune companies. dpInk represents two divisions a) book nook and b) federal and commercial contracts.
