Lightweight pi pallet™ slashes shipping costs without sacrificing performance

[CHICAGO, March 30]— With wood pallets occupying 2-3% of U.S. landfill space, inventor Norman Gordon saw the need for a “green” pallet. But he knew few users would pay a hefty premium. “In this economy, we can’t expect CEOs to choose the environment over cost control. The pi pallet will help shippers go green while also cutting their costs,” Gordon said. “And to replace wood, I had to be sure my pallet could transport and rack a full load. It does.”

Gordon’s firm Pallets International is pleased to introduce the lightweight, wood-corrugated composite pi pallet™. Its patented design yields a pallet far lighter than wood (16 lbs. vs. 45 or more), yet able to haul and rack similar loads. Fuel-related savings for air freight and LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) shippers, who pay by weight, exceed the pi pallet’s cost on the first use. Since it is reusable, recyclable, and saves fuel, the pi pallet is eco-friendly. And the pi pallet is RFID-ready for tracking and inventory control.

The company will offer replacement corrugated sleeves to serve as a quick repair mechanism to deliver a pallet that looks new but is even stronger. This will extend the pallet’s life cycle. Next will be a heavily reinforced rental pool model far lighter than offerings from CHEP or iGPS. Gordon sees his firm’s niche as sustainable solutions that help a customer’s bottom line.
