Follow on Google News | Reserve Seating Now for Annual May Breakfast/Brunch at Smith-Appleby HouseJohnny cakes and homemade breads lead off the menu at the 38th Annual May Breakfast/Brunch on Sunday, May 1st, at the Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield, RI.
At the event, volunteers in Colonial costume will treat guests at the historic 18th century home to a homemade breakfast of Johnny cakes, blueberry and cranberry bread, chilled fruit cup, breakfast strata, Grandma’s old fashioned baked beans, coffee & orange juice. After the brunch, visitors are invited to tour the rooms and exhibits of the House Museum. The House originated as a one-room stone-ender with a loft, built circa 1696 by Elisha Smith, a grandson of John Smith “The Miller”–one of Roger William’s original party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony to settle in Providence. Later generations of the family expanded the house over the years to its present 12 rooms. The house features a variety of original stencils, designs, furnishings, and exhibits, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also home to The Historical Society of Smithfield. Seating for the breakfast/brunch is 11 a.m. Reservations are required; call 401-231-7363. Admission is $15 per person, which includes a self-guided tour.
